A Brief Background About Me
Sam Turnbull is Vision One’s lead on marketing strategy. Sam is a proven marketing professional with significant experience in FMCG and the travel sector. His expertise is in developing and implementing marketing strategies that work – growing brand equity and sales, online and offline.
Sam started his career in marketing, working for food giants Nestlé and Unigate Group. Sam joined First Choice Holidays as the Marketing Manager for Sovereign Holidays – the organisation’s premium package holiday brand based on scheduled flying. Here he significantly grew the £20M business and “learned the ropes” of tour operating. A number of roles followed including the role of E-Commerce Director for the First Choice group. This included working with external consultants to define the on-line strategy and then implementing the necessary changes to open up the e-commerce channel.
Once the new channel was successfully up and running Sam moved on to become the Marketing Director across the mass-market tour operating brand First Choice Holidays, the retail businesses (Bakers Dolphin, Holiday Hypermarket, Travel Choice, First Choice Travel Agencies) and airline businesses which was re-branded from Air 2000 to First Choice Airways. At the time these businesses were turning over around £1 billion. One of the highlights in this role, which became possible after some brand rationalisation, was that Sam ran a highly integrated and successful national TV sponsorship of “I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here…” resulting in the organisation’s highest ever market share in the critical January/February booking period. Sam then moved onto a Marketing Director role for the company’s specialist businesses which included brands like Sunsail, Exodus, Crown Blue Line and Trek America – with the main focus being on online customer acquisition performance.
Today, Sam provides added value to the research we undertake at Vision One – helping to develop effective marketing and brand strategies for our clients but also developing our brand and communications products (e.g. AdProbe).
A particular passion for Sam outside of work is mountaineering and he is a Non-Executive Director on the board of Mountain Training Trust – the charity that runs the National Mountain Sports Centre at Plas y Brenin.
