Liverpool Named One of the UK’s Friendliest Cities

What makes a city truly friendly? It’s more than landmarks or attractions — it’s how people make you feel. Recent research highlights Liverpool as one of the UK’s friendliest cities, recognised for its warmth, openness, and strong sense of community. From first impressions to everyday interactions, the city consistently creates a welcoming experience for both visitors and residents. In an increasingly competitive landscape for tourism and city branding, these human connections are what set places apart and leave a lasting impression.

Vision One’s very own Tony Lewis believes that “Liverpool is a place that combines a rich past along with a bright future”… and the market research statistics make us believe he’s right!

Liverpool started off like a tidal pool next to the Mersey. Its growth was largely driven by the city’s status as a major port, founded by King John in 1207. It was made a city in 1880, and by 1901 the population had reached 685,000. By the mid-20th century, many of the city’s traditional industries had gone into decline. In the 1960’s, it was the centre of the ‘Mersey beat’ sound, which became synonymous with The Beatles, and tourism then began to flourish!

The city’s history makes it a seamless destination for anyone looking to explore England’s vast cultural heritage, and it is a dynamic city with plenty of pubs and inns, as well as festivals and exhibitions year-round.

Liverpool is home to the Beatles and with its fabulous waterfront, the Three Graces and Albert Docks, its stunning array of museums, two very different cathedrals, two famous football clubs, unparalleled shopping centres and five theatres – Liverpool is certainly on the rise to being a city of vibrancy and delight.

Liverpool voted the friendliest city in the UK

Voted the friendliest city in the UK, Liverpool has more parks than Paris and a plethora of outdoor spaces, highlighting Sefton Park. Sefton Park is alive all year round with its thriving events calendar, from LIMF festivals to some of the best fireworks you’ve ever seen in the winter. It is also home to the Grand National, the world’s most famous steeplechase, held each year at Aintree in April and watched by just over 600 million people worldwide, with prize money of over £2 million.

As one of the best places to shop, Liverpool is home to Liverpudlians who like to look good and set trends. Shoppers are spoilt for choice between polished new city shopping centres, boutique arcades, bohemian streets and farmers’ markets. However, Liverpool ONE, right in the heart of the city, is an open-air shopping district home to more than 160 famous high street and designer names, including the only Beauty Bazaar Harvey Nichols in the country. Then you can finish a day of shopping by grabbing a bite to eat! Liverpool city region’s dining scene is fantastically varied, from sleek fine dining to independent bohemian bistros and high-street favourites, from modern British to the finest foods from around the world. It’s no wonder Liverpool has been voted the friendliest city in the UK.

‘Liverpool is one of the happiest places to work because of what the city and its people are like: friendly, collaborative, supportive,’ says Matt Kennedy, centre manager at a local startup incubator, Launch22. ‘There is a cosmopolitan feel around the place. We have come a long way over the last decade, and I think there’s an excitement about what the future holds.’ – The Guardian, placing Liverpool as the 3rd happiest place to work in the UK.
